I will take any occasion and turn it into an excuse to take a trip. Job promotion? Let’s go! Birthday? Booked! It’s a Tuesday? ABSOLUTELY!!!
C turned 25 at the end of July, and we were looking for something convenient and relaxing. As we absolutely love getting to explore our new state of North Carolina, and July in Raleigh was getting a step above sweltering, we chose to head west into the mountains and one of our favorite places, Asheville!
If you’ve never been, you absolutely must go. Beautiful mountains, incredible hiking, an eclectic downtown with a hippie vibe and more craft beer breweries than you can shake a stick at. Asheville is the perfect weekend getaway at any time of the year!
As far as the digs for this trip, we settled in at The Grove Park Inn, which has been on our bucket list for a while! Listen, this isn’t exactly the most cost effective place to stay. However, their rates are much cheaper in the summer compared to the fall and winter months, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity!
The grounds of this hotel are breathtaking and really give you that mountain feel! The hotel looks out on the mountains, has a handful of restaurants that boast the same view, and there’s plenty of sitting space to take in the views on the patio!
When it comes to the hotel, we’re all about first impressions, and any hotel that wants to celebrate right along with us gets automatic brownie points. Helloooooo birthday champagne and chocolate covered strawberries!
Just another beautiful view at this incredible property. If you’re in Asheville, and even if you’re not staying here, it’s worth it to head over to check it out! Truly beautiful and alllll the photo ops.
So after wandering around and enjoying the views, we wanted to head downtown for dinner. The other wonderful thing about Grove Park Inn is that it has a very secluded and has a quiet feel. However, it’s also incredibly close to Asheville’s downtown area, less than a 10 minute drive away! So we headed to the bar in the hotel lobby and enjoyed a drink and my personal favorite, a CHEESE BOARD (!!!), and then headed on!
We found ourselves at a popular favorite, Wicked Weed Brewing. A plethora of beers and delicious food made for the best first food spot of the trip!
Back to the Grove Park Inn after dinner, and this is something you DON’T want to miss! There’s a dueling piano bar at night within the hotel. Two pianists battle it out covering songs that the audience requests–and it is SOOO much fun!!! We went every night while we were in Asheville–highly recommend!
Day two is ALLLLL about relaxing–and where else to do that than The Spa at Grove Park Inn?!?!?!
This is the most spectacular spa I’ve ever been in. EVER. Not that I’ve even been in a lot of spas, like at all. We hadn’t even planned on going to the spa here. It sounded amazing, but it was highly booked up. However, if you get a treatment, you get access to the pools, jacuzzis, spa, etc all day long. The curiosity was something we simply couldn’t resist!
You are looking at the most relaxing place I’ve ever been. First of all, it’s an electronics free zone to promote relaxation and being unplugged for everyone, so I will try my best to describe it to you.
It’s underground. You walk through an underground entrance with rock formations and soft music playing within the hotel to get there! There’s a men and women’s spa that both have saunas, hot tubs, and a very cold tub that will quite literally take your breath away.
In the co-ed spa you’ll find a HUGE pool with a skylight that plays music under the water. You read that correctly. Also found in this space are hot tubs under waterfalls and an outdoor pool area with food and drink service. We just planned to get a treatment and maybe spend a few hours here, but y’all. It’s just incredible. And the design is really freaking cool. We spent the entire day there and had no regrets!
Breaking up the day with some lunch! You really can’t go wrong with ANY of the restaurants on the property, but we were particularly impartial to view from The Edison!
AAaaaaand back to the spa!
After a day of absolute relaxation, Saturday nights are for brewery hopping downtown Asheville!
The kind of message I can absolutely get behind.
For you brew-lovers out there, I don’t have any particular recommendations because it is SO much fun to just experience and wander! We went to Hi-Wire, Green Man, Twin Leaf, and The Funkatorium!
And finally, to top off a perfect weekend, Sundays are for venturing up into the mountains!
Thanks for a perfect weekend, Asheville! Until next time and Happy Traveling!
